I created Mythica partly as a playground for all of the cool things I wanted to draw from werewolves to dragons and everything in between. The weredragon is a creature that is somewhere in between.
The weredragon are the creation of the Morrigan, Queen of the Underworld.
They are, for the most part, mindless killing machines. Where their Queen points they obey. Without question, fear, or moralities of any kind. They can transform to look human which would make them hard to pick out in a crowd if it weren’t for the mindless part. Speaking human is beyond the capabilities of most weredragons. When in dragon form they are heavily armored. This doesn’t mean they are easy to kill when they are in human form. Bullets still won’t do much to them as the heart is still encased in marrow much harder than anything human but the ol’ removal of the head seems to do the trick.

weredragon concept

Mustard gas slows it a little and flamethowers certainly don’t work. IN fact some of the weredragons can breath fire right back.
They have wings but the span and the membrane thickness only allow for gliding down or for aiding in jumps. The wings are not big or strong enough for full flight.

The sketches above are very early concepts. There are several different breeds of weredragon as there are different breeds of dragon. Check back soon for more concepts.

It was however fun to draw, especially since it gave me reason to bust out some goggles for Riley.

Oh she is such a good liar. Apparently so is this other fellow.
The one with the giant nose. Good lord you could keep out of tha rain under that thing.
So who is this guy and exactly who is this woman? Some may know. There have been several entries about this character Riley Scott. She is, as my writer likes to say. A damsel NOT in distress.
The question is, whose side is she on?
Tune in next week true believers for you WILL find out more about these two.
Spread the word.
Mythica FTW!

So, who is this red headed vixen and just what the heck is she doing on a German sub? Well keep following along and you will find out.
For those of you that were hoping to see where things were going with young Kimberly and Yosef…well use your imagination.
So for those of you that didn’t hear. Mythica issue #1 is in print! The first print run is a Limited Edition of 100. Each one is signed and numbered. I will have 25 copies at Escape Velocity Comics this Saturday for Free Comic Book Day. If you would like to order your own copy of this Limited Edition shoot me an email for details and availability.
I want to again thank William Tooker for his wordsmithing magic, Kimberly Anne Black for doing flats and McLain McGuire for lettering.
See you all next week!

Although she does seem to be moving in close. Maybe she is trying to give him more of a reason to stay? hmmm? We shall see. Apparently Kimberly really likes the color purple too.

This page was fun because again i got a chance to do some period research. I like doing research. Finding reference for the late 1800′s to early 1900′s isn’t as easy as a quick Google search. Most reference for clothing comes in the form of illustrations out of old catalogs. Although they had the ability to take photos at the time it was expensive and time consuming. Most clothing companies employed illustrators because it was much cheaper than a photo. (Even back then artists were starving) The problem with these illustrations is there is little idea about the texture or the color pallets available. So one has to dig deeper. Yet innevitably there will be someone out there who will claim that Kimberly’s outfit here doesn’t lo anything like the time period. To which my answer is always the same. “You know this because of your extensive time spent in early 1900′s Europe?”

Here are some of the references used to create Kimberly’s outfit.

Well we shall find out next week!

I really enjoy how this page came out. Again, pretty static shots broken up with changing angles and zoom depth. ALSO! Riley Scott makes her debut in 3 weeks! Mark your calenders!

This page started out kind of stumping me. It was just a conversation page with lots of back and forth over the shoulder shots. After several rough drafts I finally came up with a layout that i felt was visually interesting. I feel like this page has a nice sense of movement to it even though they are essentially still just standing and talking. Lesson is, do lots of sketches of the page. Many times you will come up with something better.
As mentioned last week if you are just getting started with Mythica you can check out the whole first issue HERE
I want to give a huge THANK YOU to my new web guru Lewaine Heath for fixing a last minute website glitch in the middle of the night so this page could get posted on time.
