What’s up everyone?! In today’s episode we continue following the mysterious red head, Rutherford gets a nose job and we see a car with a circular windshield. Not too practical but then again neither is putting a gas tank behind the seat. Mental note: Don’t ever use this car in a shootout.
It was however fun to draw, especially since it gave me reason to bust out some goggles for Riley.

Oh she is such a good liar. Apparently so is this other fellow.
The one with the giant nose. Good lord you could keep out of tha rain under that thing.
So who is this guy and exactly who is this woman? Some may know. There have been several entries about this character Riley Scott. She is, as my writer likes to say. A damsel NOT in distress.
The question is, whose side is she on?

Oh this was a fun page to draw. This is THE first appearance of Riley Scott. I like to believe that someday when Mythica is being distributed in a dozen different languages around the globe that this will be a sought after page by collectors.
So, who is this red headed vixen and just what the heck is she doing on a German sub? Well keep following along and you will find out.
For those of you that were hoping to see where things were going with young Kimberly and Yosef…well use your imagination.
So for those of you that didn’t hear. Mythica issue #1 is in print! The first print run is a Limited Edition of 100. Each one is signed and numbered. Well it looks like Kim has had a change of heart about Yosef going off to help the war efforts. Although she does seem to be moving in close.  Maybe she is trying to give him more of a reason to stay? hmmm? We shall see. Apparently Kimberly really likes the color purple too.

This page was fun because again i got a chance to do some period research. I like doing research. Finding reference for the late 1800′s to early 1900′s isn’t as easy as a quick Google search. Most reference for clothing comes in the form of illustrations out of old catalogs.  Although they had the ability to take photos at the time it was expensive and time consuming.  Most clothing companies employed illustrators because it was much cheaper than a photo. (Even back then artists were starving) The problem with these illustrations is there is little idea about the texture or the color pallets available.  So one has to dig deeper. Yet innevitably there will be someone out there who will claim that Kimberly’s outfit here doesn’t lo anything like the time period. To which my answer is always the same. “You know this because of your extensive time spent in early 1900′s Europe?”

Here are some of the references used to create Kimberly’s outfit.

Okay Kimberly wakes from her dreams about Magnus once again where things seem to get stranger. Meanwhile reality of life floods in as she awakens. Thoughts of her temper tantrum from last night fill her with regret.  Will she let her fiance go help the war effort? Will she ever see him again if she does? If your loved one was about to go off to war what would you do?

Well we shall find out next week!

I really enjoy how this page came out. Again, pretty static shots broken up with changing angles and zoom depth. ALSO! Riley Scott makes her debut in 3 weeks! Mark your calenders!

This is the rough draft, the finished line art and the finished colored page before lettering for page 2 of Mythica #2. The rough is more of a thumbnail. It was drawn about 3″ x 4″. From there I drew the line art on 11×17 smooth bristol paper. Colored in photoshop Cs4.

Okay this page has been a roller coaster ride but it’s finally here! This page started out kind of stumping me. It was just a conversation page with lots of back and forth over the shoulder shots. After several rough drafts I finally came up with a layout that i felt was visually interesting. I feel like this page has a nice sense of movement to it even though they are essentially still just standing and talking. Lesson is, do lots of sketches of the page. Many times you will come up with something better.
