Mythica needs your input

Mythica is moving forward! I will have a small ashcan sized preview of the first issue available at the Chicago Comicon August 11th.  This project has been developing in my mind for over 5 yrs now. Since before i went back to school to get my BA in Media Arts and Animation i have been taking notes and jotting down ideas. For a time, it was on my mind even in my sleep. I would wake in the middle of the night and have to write down a sequence that had just played out in my dream.  As i am a visual person i could see an entire scene like a director might. However after years of writing down all of these scenes i realized that it was quite sporadic. I am not a writer but i am a story teller. I needed a writer to help me string all of these ideas together. I approached several to no avail. The task of getting inside my chaotic world and trying to put order to it was either to monumental or simply they weren’t the right type of writer for the project. In comes William Tooker. Well i should clarify. He was introduced to me by my best friend, Pam at a small comic convention in Denver.

Will has in my mind done what i thought might be impossible. He has taken my notes and spent countless hours over the phone getting inside my head to understand my vision. He is well into the second issue already and i am so excited!

Why do we need your help?

Well as this book takes place in WWI, i want to make the art fit wit the genre. It is action, adventure, at times comical but by no means is it a comedy. There are demons to fight and there is bound to be plenty of intense fight scenes. I have begun penciling the pages and as mentioned will have a preview of the comic at Wizard World Chicago where all the pages will be in pencil form. This book is going to be in color though and i want it to feel right. I have been debating on whether or not to have my lines inked or just go straight to color. I love the effect Marvel achieved by coloring over Joe Madureira’s pencils for Ultimates 3 so i decided to try that approach first. Below is a test page that i colored. The colors are not completed but hopefully it gives enough of an idea of what the book might look like if colored directly over my pencils. We need YOUR input. Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.

This scene takes place in Belgium just before dusk. Magnus and his Black Watch squad are trying to get out of enemy territory undetected. Magnus’ right hand man and best friend, Graham Drummond, thinks he getting delrious because he keeps seeing things. Magnus acknowledges that they have all been up for far too long and are very tired but they are almost to the border. Magnus then starts to check on the rest of his crew when the scout, Hamish, urgently reports something of interest. What is it i wonder, hmmmm.
